We're set for a true clash of styles on Saturday as Fiji arrive in Modena with a spring in their step to face an Italy side that's long overdue a victory.
It's a tough job to wear azzurri these days. For all their gallant fighting week in and week out, Italy have won just two games (against Samoa and Scotland) in 23 starts since November 2008.
To be fair, Nick Mallett's side almost always play against the world's top rugby nations so it would be unreasonable to expect them to have a high winning percentage, but surely the bitter taste of defeat must be sapping the morale of Italy's finest.
Saturday offers the Italians their best opportunity to record a Test victory since they got the better of Scotland back in February.
But the hosts will take a healthy dose of caution with them to the Stadio Braglia. Fiji are two places above Italy (who are a lowly twelfth) in the IRB world rankings and the Islanders' shock draw against Wales last week was proof that they should never be underestimated.
Fiji always struggle with continuity at the start of tours as their rapidly assembled team tries to gel. But after three weeks together, we should expect a further improvement on their Cardiff performance.
It seems appropriate that the tourists visited the nearby Ferrari factory on their day off - their rugby is all about pace. Even if it is set to be bitterly cold by Fijian standards, with dry, sunny conditions forecast (unlike the snow they were greeted by in 2005) the visitors will be a handful if they manage to get the ball wide.
But therein lies the trouble for the men in white. Getting their hands on the ball. Unlike Wales, there is simply no way Mallett will allow his side to be dragged into an open running game.
There's no mystery here. Italy's monster pack will keep it as tight as they can and try rumble their way to the whitewash. Given the quality of the home side's set piece and maul, we see no reason why they shouldn't succeed.
It's classic case of chalk and formaggio. It should be intriguing.
Players to watch:
For Italy: There's never a lack of praise for Italy skipper Sergio Parisse but his back row partner Alessandro Zanni is often overlooked. Zanni is a quality player and has become a vital cog in the increasingly successful Treviso machine. With Italy sure to be charging around the fringes of rucks and mauls, Zanni could have a busy afternoon.
For Fiji: Left out of the initial squad, Racing Metro centre Albert Vulivuli was a late addition to the touring party but has not disappointed. Fiji's try-scorer in Cardiff, the 25-year-old has real pace and at 6ft3' (1.90m) and 104 kg, he's no lightweight. His knowledge of Racing team-mates Andrea Masi and Mirco Bergamasco will come in handy too.
Head-to-head: The opposing half-back pairings will have very different, but equally important tasks on Saturday. Seremaia Baï is a world class playmaker and will be looking to give his centres lots of space to run into. In contrast, Luciano Orquera and rookie scrum-half Edoardo Gori will have to keep their pack on the front foot. The axis duo that get's it right should lead their side to victory.

There is a storm brewing in South Africa, one that could lead to the world champions spiraling to defeat against England in London on Saturday.
Recent records show that the Boks have beaten the English in their previous six meetings but many are discounting the history books at HQ.
Why? Well, England are the nation that now looks more likely out of this duo to challenge for the 2011 Rugby World Cup. Yes, you heard me right, Martin Johnson has finally got the pieces of his jigsaw put in place and seems to be reaping the rewards. A second consecutive win against Australia made for the stand-out 80 minutes and they followed that up with a workmanlike effort against the Samoans. It wasn't pretty but was efficient.
In contrast, South Africa's recent effort at Murrayfield has added weight to a plethora of viewpoints that are clogging our comments section, and it now seems one would be hard-pressed to find a Bok fan expecting anything like the 42-6 result they recorded on their last trip to Twickers in 2008. If anything, that score-line could be reversed on Saturday...well maybe not to that extreme but you see where I am going. Questions need answering.
Here are biggest: Has this side even attempted to adapt to modern rugby? Do they have the right coaches? What's going on with these substitutions?!
All valid points from fans that were treated to a frustrating affair in Edinburgh, where the Boks chose to take off a kicking ten for a running one in Patrick Lambie when conditions were deteriorating. A strange call but one that's beginning to become the norm from the Springbok coaches. Some refereeing decisions did raise an eyebrow - Juan Smith at the breakdown for one - but in truth, South Africa just didn't deserve to beat the Scottish.
So where to now for the group that looked close to unbeatable in 2009? Twickenham is where to face an England side that PdV is concerned about.
"Martin has made England a world force again. It is a hell of a worrying factor for us, especially with the World Cup so close," pondered De Villiers.
Mind-games or not, this sort of praise would maybe have not escaped the moustache of the Bok boss a year ago. (A) because England were nowhere near putting themselves in the World Cup shop window and (B) South Africa had just sealed the Tri-Nations, winning five out of their six fixtures.
How things have changed.
Ones to watch:
For England: Despite not having scored a try in his last sixteen games for his country, Mark Cueto is bang in form in all other areas as the English go into this November-ending clash. The Sale man's powerful running game was exceptional against both Australia and Samoa so it will be interesting to see if he can continue to be an outlet for this impressive back-three. Maybe he will get the try he now definitely deserves.
For South Africa: He was man-of-the-match against Wales but then omitted from the 22 against Scotland and South Africa will be hoping for Pierre Spies to put in the same performance he did in Cardiff. The Bulls number eight has sometimes been questioned for not pitching up when games become physical and tight, which he cannot do against this England pack. A huge game from Spies is required by the Springboks.
Head-to-head: We are at lock for this one where youth meets experience as Courtney Lawes faces off with Bakkies Botha. Northampton's promising forward has been very strong in white this month, carrying well in a good combination with Tom Palmer. However, on Saturday the duo meet arguably the world's best second-row pairing in Botha and Victor Matfield which makes for something of a step up to the big-boy league.

New Zealand will be 80 minutes away from clinching yet another Grand Slam when they tackle Wales at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff on Saturday.
"Will be?" cry the supporters in the red corner. Not "willpotentially be?". Whilst it's premature - or arrogant even - to suggest Wales have no hope in hell. Sadly for them, it's the truth.
With Wales having last won a Test match eight months ago, losing five and drawing one of their last six fixtures - it's pretty hard betting on the home side who face a Herculean task trying to stop the All Blacks' juggernaut, whose last defeat against their hosts came 57 years ago since when they have reeled off 23 successive wins in the fixture.
Wales have never gone through an entire November series of Tests without winning at least one game, but that is the fate that awaits them if they lose this weekend. New Zealand, meanwhile, have amassed 113 points and 13 tries in seeing off England, Scotland and Ireland, and it will take a huge effort by the Welshmen to avoid similar treatment.
Victory over Wales would cap off a memorable year that has seen New Zealand win all but one game that also included a clean sweep of the Tri-Nations. They have rarely been stretched since arriving on Northern Hemisphere shores following their defeat to Australia in Hong Kong, save for a second-half salvo by England at Twickenham.
Fatigue could be the only factor in seeing the All Blacks' wheels come off, but it's highly unlikely as Graham Henry's troops go in search of a win that would seal a third Grand Slam of the Home Unions in six seasons - an amazing feat.
In fact, the Kiwis only seem to be getting better as the tour reaches its finale while Wales plot their recovery from last week's much criticised draw against Fiji and sabotage New Zealand's quest for a fourth Grand Slam in the last decade.
The first step by coach Warren Gatland was to sack his losing skipper Ryan Jones - a move which has been chastised by former players upset at the manner of the loose forward's demotion.
Matthew Rees will lead the side and Jones, who had been Gatland's captain since starting his tenure after the 2007 World Cup, will start at number eight. The knee-jerk reaction to axe his loyal leader only confirms that things are not well on the pitch, but off it too.
Defeats are stacking up for Gatland, the no-nonsense New Zealander, and questions must now surely be raised as to why his employees offered him a new four-year contract before this current end-of-year campaign kicked off.
Poor results aside, the run of defeats has also shown beyond all doubt that Wales lack sufficient strength in depth to be rated realistic 2011 World Cup contenders.
The same can't be said of New Zealand whose current successes have raised hopes that this current crop of players can end 24 years of longing and secure World Cup glory on home soil next year.
But first things first.
Ones to watch:
For Wales: The 22-man squad named for this weekend's clash features 19 personnel or positional changes from the squad humbled by a draw with Fiji. But out of all the reinforcements called in, it's who has been retained that could play a big part. Ryan Jones may have had his captaincy armband stripped of him, but he gets a chance at redemption and will no doubt look to make amends with a solid - and penalty free - outing for his country.
For New Zealand: All Blacks fly-half Dan Carter will enter international rugby's record books as the most prolific scorer of all time if he contributes just three points to New Zealand's cause on Saturday. Given he averages effectively 19 points a time against Wales - he has amassed 150 in eight appearances - it should be a formality that he overtakes Jonny Wilkinson's total for England and the British and Irish Lions of 1178.
Head to head: Alan Lewis v Richie McCaw. Wales openside flanker Sam Warburton makes his comeback from injury to match-up against All Blacks captain Richie McCaw in an ominous duel at the breakdown, but that's not where most eyes will be focused on. With McCaw's alleged immunity from referee prosecution, it will be interesting to see how the IRB Player of the Year nominee gets on with Irish ref Lewis who has been urged by compatriot Stephen Ferris to use the sin bin when Welsh ball is impeded. No pressure then.

Sub-zero temperatures await the Wallabies in Paris on Saturday as the tourists look to extend their winning streak against France.
With a bit of luck the snow will stay away but Stade de France is sure to be very chilly by the 20.45 (local time) kick-off.
Australia have not lost to France in five years - winning their last four meetings - but arrive in the French capital searching for the form that saw them beat the All Blacks a month ago.
One would be forgiven for getting the feeling that Australia's tour has progressively lost momentum, with last week's win in Italy providing little reassurance after the losses to England and Munster.
While the dirt-trackers' midweek defeat in Ireland can be somewhat put down to the adverse weather conditions, the lack of grunt up front that was exposed - once again - in Italy would have had French fans grinning.
To say France have a strong scrum would be an understatement of note. And news that les Bleus have been fine-tuning their set-piece against a €200,000 state-of-the-art robotic scrum machine - which can be programmed to take on the characteristics of any opposition front row - does not bode well for Australia.
Judging by the comments coming out of the respective camps this week, don't be surprised if the hosts try bullying the tourists.
Apart from the pack featuring a certain 'Caveman' who has been given licence to roam, the members of the home 10-12-13 combination outweigh their Aussie opposition by around 14kg per man - and that stat is significantly helped by the fact that Adam Ashley-Cooper is no small man. Expect lots of hard, straight running from the likes of Yannick Jauzion.
The French have in essence selected two full-backs (Jerome Porical and Alexis Palisson) as they expect the Wallabies to try turn their pack around with deep kicks. Beware the counter-attacking Frenchman.
Of course being bigger than your opposition will help precision a little if your communication isn't up to scratch which has, unsurprisingly, been a problem for the Tricolors this November.
It's hard to believe that 'cohesion' is a French word when Marc Lièvremont is changing his team more than my wife changes her shoes (she's French too, so that's a lot). Spare a thought for Imanol Harinordoquy, who was nominated for the IRB Player of the Year just two days after being dropped. At least the changes have been kept down to a handful this week.
Despite wins over Fiji and Argentina, the French coaching staff have admitted that they've learnt at lot less than they had hoped this November. Apocalyptic conditions in Nantes were hardly improved on in Montpellier, so Australia won't be the only ones hoping for dry conditions on the outskirts of Paris this weekend.
Australia's prowess on attack are well documented and "more volume" has been the message from Lièvremont so if Saturday's protagonists can avoid turning into blocks of ice, the battle for the Trophée de Bicentenaries promises to be a humdinger.
Players to watch:
For France: The blue full-back jersey has been passed around like a bottle of pinot noir at a French dinner table of the two years. Perpignan back-door-man Jérôme Porical has had two outstanding seasons with his club and has been rewarded with a starting role after his solid show against Fiji. Unwavering under the high ball and an accurate kicker, this is his chance to make the number fifteen jumper his own.
For Australia: As we forecast, Quade Cooper has not had an easy ride in defence this month. Although his tackling was better against Italy, with all due respect, France represent a significant step up. Lièvremont has openly said his loose trio will be out to get Cooper and the aforementioned heavyweight French backs have suggested the 10-12 channel will see plenty of traffic. Cooperman had better be on his toes.
Head-to-head: One of the world's outstanding players this year, David Pocock faces his toughest European opposition on this tour in the form of France skipper Thierry Dusautoir. While the Wallaby flank has been a nuisance for ball carriers trying to take possession into rucks, the Toulouse stalwart is one of the hardest, most proficient tacklers in the game and will be looking to shut Pocock down.

Match Preview :
London Irish are boosted by the return of full-back Delon Armitage for this Friday's clash against Northampton.
Other changes to the starting XV see Romanian international, Paulica Ion coming in as tighthead prop and James Buckland starting at hooker.
"Despite the short turnaround we've prepared well and have strong belief in our ability to challenge whenever and wherever we play. The players are looking forward to the game," said Exiles Head Coach Toby Booth.
"Delon's return is our gain and England's loss this weekend - he's a fantastic player."
Meanwhile, Saints have announced that Friday's Round Nine fixture at the Gardens is a sell-out.
The two teams are dominating the Aviva Premiership league table and scoring charts as the competition edges ever closer to the half-way stage, and unsurprisingly the game has been declared 'full' days in advance.
Director of Rugby Jim Mallinder says that it is a big game for the club and that London Irish should be treated with plenty of respect.
"Top-of-the-table clashes are always big games, but these are the games that we want to be involved in as they show we are heading in the right direction," he said.
"It will be a challenging evening for us. London Irish have been playing some good rugby this season and deserve their position at the top end of the league table.
"Their forwards and midfielders have been carrying the ball powerfully and their strike runners out wide have been scoring plenty of tries. We will certainly have to be focused right from the first whistle if we want a positive result."
Mallinder also thanked the fans for filling Franklin's Gardens in advance.
"The fans have really made their presence felt this season for the big matches, and it matters a lot to the players and coaches that the stadium is already sold out," he added.
Form: Northampton have won their last three encounters with London Irish, whilst the Exiles have not won at Franklin's Gardens since a 21-20 scoreline in November 2004. The top two teams in the Aviva Premiership Rugby table, and the two top try scoring clubs meet head on at Franklin's Gardens. Northampton Saints returned to the top of the table for the first time since round three after their 19-10 victory over Sale on Friday. The Saints are unbeaten in their last eight games in all competitions. London Irish slipped up 25-33 at Wasps on Sunday - the first time the Exiles had failed to record a league point in a Premiership game this season.

Match Preview :
Edinburgh head coach Rob Moffat has challenged his players to show the same ruthlessness they displayed in recording a record Magners League win against Connacht last September when the Galway side return to Murrayfield on Friday.
Edinburgh's eight-try 62-13 triumph 14 months ago was their biggest ever success in the tournament, and Moffat wants a repeat of the conviction that underpinned the victory as his men chase their fourth straight Magners League win at home.
"It was a terrific night for us last time against Connacht - the players gave us everything we'd asked for," the Borderer confirmed.
"We're well aware that the margin of victory that game was pretty exceptional, but the guys should be looking at the qualities that produced the result and looking to replicate them this weekend.
"If we do that, we'll give ourselves an excellent chance of winning the game and continuing that good recent run at Murrayfield.
Moffat's starting line-up for the game shows four changes from the 21-9 victory over Benetton Treviso three weeks ago.
Craig Hamilton comes into the second row in place of Scott MacLeod, while Stuart McInally, who impressed on debut for Scotland A in the win over USA Eagles last Friday, will make his first Edinburgh start at number eight. Netani Talei switches to blindside flanker as a result.
Behind the scrum, Tim Visser returns to the wing having withdrawn from the Treviso game after picking up a groin strain in the warm-up. Chris Paterson, meanwhile, has been named at full-back.
The Connacht clash could turn into a gala occasion for tighthead prop Geoff Cross, who will make his 100th Magners League appearance should he emerge from the replacements' bench.
Also among the substitutes are lock forward Steven Turnbull and winger Andrew Turbull, who are both in line to sample competitive Edinburgh action for the first time this season.
Meanwhile, Connacht coach Eric Elwood has once again blended youth and experience with his selection for Connacht's Round 9 Magners League game against Edinburgh.
Hooker Dermot Murphy wins his ninth cap for the province after impressing last week against the Ospreys, he lines up next to centurion Brett Wilkinson and former Ireland U20 Jamie Hagan in the front row.
Nikora retains the number 10 jersey after an assured kicking display last week, the 25-year old New Zealander landed all of Connacht's fifteen points in last week's narrow loss to the Ospreys.
Galway's Andrew Browne returns to the blindside of the scrum as McCarthy and Swift renew their partnership in the second row.
Brian Tuohy and Shane Monahan win their first Magners League starts of the season, both had strong performances in Connacht historic win over Samoa and join Eoin Griffin, Keith Matthews and Gavin Duffy in the back-line.
Duffy celebrated his 100th cap for Connacht last weekend.
Form: Edinburgh's only defeat in their last five Magners League matches was 18-19 at Leinster in round 7. The Scotsmen have won three in a row at Murrayfield in the competition since Munster won there 16-13 on the opening weekend. Connacht lost by the narrowest of margins at home to Ospreys on Friday and are now winless in their last five Magners League matches. The Irishmen have already won in Scotland this season, having beaten Glasgow 19-17 at Firhill on 17 September. Connacht won 22-21 in Galway the last time the two teams met and are going for successive wins over Edinburgh for the first time ever.

Match Preview :
Treviso are back in action after the November Test window and the defeat against Edinburgh in Murrayfield to face Ulster at the Stadio Monigo in Round Nine of the Magners League.
All eyes will be on Benetton's new signing Willem De Waal. The South African played with Western Province in the Currie Cup final and will play in the number ten jersey. Kris Burton will be moved to full-back.
Andrea Pratichetti and Enrico Ceccato will make their appearances in the team for the first time, while lock Valerio Bernabò will play as openside flanker.
Last but not least, Italian international winger Michele Sepe could make his debut in the green and white jersey, starting from the bench.
Meanwhile, Chris Henry will captain Ulster in a line-up which also includes Paddy Wallace who is a late release from the Irish Squad.
Two-try hero Craig Gilroy retains his place on the wing while Darren Cave returns to the starting line-up having recovered from a hamstring injury. Cave's partnership with Paddy Wallace means last week's centre duo, Nevin Spence and Ian Whitten move to the bench.
Otherwise the back-line is the same as that which defeated Cardiff 15-37 last Sunday.
Up front, Bryan Young replaces Paddy McAllister in the front row while injury to Johann Muller (neck) means that Tim Barker is called into the engine room alongside Dan Tuohy.
Another injury to Robbie Diack means that Henry moves from openside to cover the number eight position while Willie Faloon is drafted in on the flank.
Form: The teams have clashed on four previous occasions in the European Cup with Ulster winning on each occasion. Benetton Treviso have won four of their five home games so far in the Magners League. The Italians have beaten both Irish opponents they have hosted at Stadio Monigo this season. Ulster ended a run of back to back defeats in the Magners League with their 37-15 victory at Cardiff Blues on Sunday - the Ulstermen's biggest win outside of Ireland since April 2007. Ulster have won all six previous games they have played against Italian opponents.
